What I Believe.

A little about me and what I believe: When people first learn that I’m a witch, they often want to know what exactly that means. To answer that question, I first have to address the question, What is a Pagan? Because all witches are Pagans. (Though not all Pagans are witches). So what is a Pagan?

By strict definition, a Pagan is a person holding religious beliefs other than those of the primary recognized religions of the world. That’s it. “Pagan” simply means someone who has religious beliefs that are not Christian, Islamic, Hindu, or Buddhist. Maybe you just learned that you, yourself, are Pagan? Great! We now have something in common.

Outside of that definition there are literally hundreds (maybe thousands) of different kinds of Pagans. There are, of course, countless religions outside of those main four all around the world. Included within those are a class of “Earth-Based Religions.” And within those there are Druids, Wiccans, Native American spiritualists, Pantheists, Sacred Ecologists, Norse Pagans, Animists, Celtic Pagans, Solitary witches, Coven witches, Hedge witches, Shamans, Asatru followers, and many, many, MANY more. And if that’s not enough, there are people who are combinations of a few of these, or, like me, people who take bits and pieces of many different practices from around the world and mesh them into one way of believing and living.

So what exactly do I believe? (continued below)

That answer is always evolving as I am always researching, learning, and evolving, but right now I would describe myself as a combination of: a wood witch, cunning woman, Native American spiritualist, traditional hedge witch, Shaman, Celtic pagan, Wiccan, and kitchen witch. I also believe in some aspects of Buddhism and eastern philosophy. I hold on to most of the teachings of Jesus from my youth (but none of the Christian church), and I embrace some other minor influences from religions and spirituality from around the world. Mash it all together and you could call me an Eclectic Solitary Witch.

At my core I believe that we are all one–all originating from one source. I believe that we’re all here working our way back toward that source, and I believe that all religions lead back to the same one God/ Goddess/ Universal Spirit. In other words, no matter what religion, all Gods are one God, and that God is reaching us in the best way possible for each individual.

I believe that the Source is a balance of both male and female, and I believe that when those of us in Paganism summon different Gods, what we are really doing is calling out to a specific aspect of the one true God/Goddess that we need at the time.

I also believe that life in ALL its forms and our big, beautiful earth are sacred manifestations of God. Oh, and I believe in and practice Magic, which, to me, is something comparable to an intense, highly-focused Christian prayer with added magical elements and the liberal use of a focused direction of energy. (Not at all unlike a priest or church leader performing an impassioned prayer over a sickened parishioner. If it has a focused intent and a good deal of emotion behind it, it’s basically the same as a witchy spell.)

Because my beliefs are so personalized and I can’t follow a general rule book, I do not belong to a Coven. Nor do I impose my beliefs on my children. Now that they are grown and have children of their own, they each have their own set of beliefs–some are still Pagan, some are not–and that’s okay. They have a whole different journey to travel than I do, and who am I to decide what tools they will need?

I believe is the same with you. You have your own path to walk in this world.

I do not keep this site in order to push my beliefs on anyone. I keep this page to give ideas on how Pagan families might work their beliefs into a family group for everyday living. Maybe those reading will learn a new way to create strong foundations, traditions, and memories for themselves and their own families. Maybe they’ll find peace in their day-to-day existence. That is my wish for them and for you.

I hope you find joy here. If you disagree with anything, that’s okay! We can agree to disagree in peace and kind spirit.

I hope this answers any question you might have about what I am and what I stand for. You can also see my idea of what my perfect Parallel Universe would look like in this post. I admit, it’s a work in progress, but it’d be a great start for the life I’m trying to build.

A SPECIAL NOTE: if you’ve come here to be threatening, I should forewarn you: Your questions and legitimate, friendly comments are welcome. Your judgment (ironically, forbidden by those four main religions, so if you are one of those, perhaps you should think twice before posting) and hostility are not. Be kind, or be gone. Anything of a threatening nature, though it is a reflection on you and your own level of evilness, not mine, will be deleted without response.

Blessed be.
